LWV Hudson hosts young voter registration

First time voters will have a special opportunity Sept. 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to register to vote at Twinsburg High School during all of the lunch periods.

The League of Women Voters of Hudson are providing this service for those turning 18 before the Nov. 6 general election. LWV will also assist those who need to change their address for voter registration purposes.

As part of an ongoing tradition, the LWV Hudson provides voter registration assistance and information at all of the Hudson City School District’s open houses in the fall. In addition to voter registration, LWV Hudson provides students with voting basics, accessing absentee ballots, how to change registration information, how to find polling sites and other information available at www.vote411.org.

LWV Hudson will hand deliver completed registration forms for the new registrants to the Board of Elections. Students say they are excited to participate in this rite of passage. Each new applicant must have a current state ID or Social Security number to complete the form.

Young voters impact and influence issues and policies that affect our communities. In Ohio, for example, no incumbent is running for six of the top constitutional offices.

The LWV will provide packets of information and a bag of celebratory gifts of patriotic importance. The LWV holds itself accountable that registrants are well-educated on voter information and access to voting. In addition to helping citizens register to vote, a candidate forum will be at Hudson High School Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.

LWV Hudson has other student programs to offer, including first-time voter information bags, “speed dating” with judicial candidates, volunteering for candidates forums and $5 student (male/?female) LWV memberships.
