LWV Hudson Positions
The League of Women Voters takes action on an issue or advocates for a cause when there is an existing League position that supports the issue or speaks to the cause.

Positions result from a process of study. Any given study, whether it be National, State, or Local, is thorough in its pursuit of facts and details. As the study progresses, a continuing discussion of pros and cons of each situation occurs.

It is the consensus statement -- the statement resulting from the consensus questions -- that becomes a position. Firm action or advocacy can then be taken on the particular issue addressed by the position. Without a position, action/advocacy cannot be taken.

LWV Hudson Local Program
  • LWVH supports adequate funding and fiscal management that maintain or improve educational programming and opportunities for all public school students in the Hudson City School District. Updated May 2013
Planning and Zoning:
  • Support the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Hudson.
Recreation and Parks:
  • LWVH supports a public recreation program that meets the needs of both the youth and adults of Hudson. An adequate public recreational program should encompass both active and passive recreational options, and would benefit from centralized, professional planning/administration.
  • LWVH supports cooperative ventures among the Hudson City Council, the Hudson City School District and the Hudson Park Board as the best means of achieving a recreational program adequate to the needs of the community at large.
  • LWVH supports a comprehensive plan for public parks and school sites in the City of Hudson.
  • LWVH supports the conservator role of the Park Board in preserving green space and environmentally sensitive areas while, at the same time, maintaining parks that provide for the community's active and passive recreational needs.
Library: The League of Women Voters of Hudson supports adequate public funding to maintain or improve the Hudson Library and Historical Society when the following criteria are met:>
  • Accountable with the oversight by an elected citizens' Board of Directors
  • Transparent with public Board Meetings and user friendly website with posted minutes and agendas
  • Uses Public funds responsibly
  • Preserves Hudson's past in its historical and archival endeavors
  • Meets the varying and changing needs of the community with its myriad of program offerings and variety of materials

LWV Hudson Regional Program
  • Support of the Lake Erie Basin Committee and of measures to preserve and restore Lake Erie and its tributaries.
Land Use:
  • Support of continued development of the Cuyahoga Valley Park and its restoration and preservation of an open green area.
  • Support of policies to ensure adequate funding, necessary land acquisition, preservation of green space, coordination and citizen involvement in the Metropolitan Park system serving Summit County.
  • Support of those segments of the Ohio and Erie Canal which are in our area which would be included in the proposed Ohio and Erie Canal Corridor as a National Heritage Corridor.
  • Support county-wide planning and cooperation with adjacent counties.
  • Support of long-range land use planning for all areas within Summit County which provides for efficient transportation, efficient delivery of services and protection of environmentally fragile areas such as steep slopes, flood plains, scenic areas, and wetlands.
  • Support of appropriate economic incentives for adaptive reuse and rehabilitation of existing structures.
  • Support of county-wide zoning patterns that create and conserve open space and preserve historic, scenic and cultural resources.
  • Support of the use of buffer zones, preferably native vegetation, between commercial developments, residential and/or scenic areas.
  • Support resolutions and ordinances requiring the retention of desirable species of trees and other vegetation which might otherwise be cleared for development.
  • Support of the provision of incentives for use of hardy native vegetation in buffer zones, developments, and general landscaping, in order to reduce maintenance and minimize the use of fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Support methods which improve the fiscal management and operation of Summit County government through the Summit County Charter.
  • Support methods which improve the fiscal management and operation of Summit County government through the Summit County Charter.
  • Modern and appropriate accounting system with timely capital and operational annual budget adoptions.
  • An executive - council form of government.
  • Election of department heads who make policy and appointment of those who administer policy.
  • Appointment of an independent auditor.
  • A personnel system based on merit.
  • Review of possible changes in the Summit County Charter.
  • Review of county-wide tax levies and the prevailing system of submission of individual tax levies by non-elected agency boards.
Social Policy:
  • Support of programs for the aged in Summit County, including housing assistance (government, voluntary, or private) financial assistance and social services.
  • Support for increased funding to help the developmentally challenged to meet their basic human needs.
  • Support an effective planning process, adequate funding and provision for the most appropriate treatment and services for persons with disabilities.
  • Support equal access to affordable housing for all income levels.
Mass Transit:
  • Support of a mass transit system in Summit County and coordination of all land use planning with transportation.
