League offers members a unique experience to learn about and constructively work toward resolving many issues facing individuals and communities today. League membership is on three levels—national, state, and local. When you join at any level, you become a member at all levels. Members receive communications from each level, providing up-to-date information on issues of interest.

The League is a grass roots organization. Discussions are held and positions on issues (local, state, or national) are arrived at in a study and consensus method that is done at the local level. LWVH has participated in studies about education issues, health care, immigration, election procedures and representation, and multiple environmental protection issues. League policies emphasize that all sides of a topic must be represented in the materials that members consult during local discussion.

The League is known for its active role in registering voters, holding Candidates and Issues Nights, publishing Voters Guides, and sponsoring public education meetings on a variety of topics of interest to Hudson. In addition, Hudson League members are observers at City government meetings, monitoring public bodies for their adherence to Ohio Sunshine laws and other measures of transparency, and for progress on public policy issues.

League meetings are open to the public. The focus is always on a topic or issues related to effective citizen participation. A long time League member once said, “There are a lot of interesting people in Hudson, but you will meet the most interesting ones at a League meeting.” There will be people to meet and learn from, whether they are featured speakers or the audience.

League is a flexible organization. You can give as much or as little of your time, talents, money, and attention as you desire. We would be pleased to have you attend any of our meetings. Please sign up to be on our “no commitment” mailing list to see if membership is something that you would like to do. If you have any questions, please email the LWVH at the above address.

The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan organization, encourages the informed and active participation in government, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
