Committees and Chairs

Chair: Karen Leith
Advocacy Committee
The Advocacy Committee keeps abreast of national, state and local issues of concern for League through the communications that come from LWVUS and LWVO as well as local issues through LWVH referral. The Committee is tasked with such activities as keeping the LWVH board aware of issues, creating a relevant message for LWVH members about these issues and conducts at least one advocacy meeting during the League year to update members on the current and relevant issues.
Chair: Tracey Mackay
Armed School Personnel Study Working Group
At the LWV Ohio State Convention in May 2019, LWVH presented a proposal to study whether arming school personnel improves the health and well-being for students, school personnel and the community. League members at the convention approved that the study to be conducted by the LWV Ohio. LWVH agreed to take the lead for this study. The study committee will complete all tasks required of a League study. This will result in a position to be voted upon by all League members at the LWV Ohio State Convention in May 2021.
Chair: Carol O'Connell
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee is responsible for developing, updating and monitoring the communications policies, the LWVH website, all social networking accounts and press releases. Chair: Cynthia Peeples
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee ensures that LWVH is promoting and employing all measures, principles, and practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the League, community, and region. The committee offers three levels of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion engagement and outreach: intra-League, Hudson Community, and county/regional.
Chair: Mimi Becker
Environmental And Climate Crisis Committee
The Environmental and Climate Crisis committee works in accordance with the position statements of LWV US and LWV Ohio to assess current topics in the environment and the climate crisis. We work to educate the public on the relevant issues, to provide an opportunity for the community to engage in dialogue on these topics, and to motivate action to increase the sustainability of life on the planet.
Chair: Kathy Battaglia
Hospitality Committee
After determining the meeting schedule for the year, the Hospitality Committee is responsible for securing appropriate locations for each meeting or social event, planning details, coordinating with the host and being the key contact for that event. At each event, members of the hospitality committee greet each attendee, provide name tags, and generally make folks welcome to the LWVH.
Chair: Chris Driver
Chair: Rosanne Thomas
Membership Committee
The membership committee monitors all aspects of membership, including bringing in new members, educating them about the League, and then encouraging them to become involved in ways that fit their interests and skills. The committee develops and implements new-member recruitment opportunities, maintains a continually updated list of members, and undertakes annual membership renewals.
Chair: Pat Simons
Observer Corps Committee
Observer Corp aims to ensure that government transparency laws, or "sunshine" laws, are being followed in Hudson by monitoring governmental meetings. For example, observers attend meetings of the Hudson City Council, the Library board, Board of Education, and others. Observers watch how issues are being addressed, whether proper notice is given before issues are discussed and voted on, whether public input is solicited, and whether open meeting laws are followed. They also serve as the "eyes and ears" of the League, identifying issues that are important to our mission so the League can act, if warranted.
Chair: Marcia Boote
